The 2023 Steam Summer Sale is now live, bringing new and recurring discounts on PC games. The event is live for two weeks, until July 13th, 10:30pm IST, with a larger pool of discounted games than the March sale event, coming in at an 85% price cut. Bandai Namco is finally offering a discount on the Dark Souls trilogy, over a year since it stopped price cuts, due to a crucial security vulnerability discovered in January 2022. However, the price reduction isn’t as steep as it seems. used to be. be, with Dark Souls 3 costing Rs. 2,149, compared to Rs. 1047 price at the beginning of last year. It’s still a huge drop from the base Rs. 4,299 however, allowing newcomers fascinated by Elden Ring to check out more of FromSoftware’s catalog. This award winning open world title is also on sale for Rs. 1819 – a 30% price cut and also a planned expansion later.
All PlayStation-PC ports are also going on sale, except for The Last of Us Part I, which I imagine won’t be discounted until Naughty Dog fixes it completely. In my technical review of the game, I mentioned how it completely consumed CPU cores – even while idling – and had a host of performance issues such as frame rate drops and uneven texture loading. Instead, you can opt for another father and son story on the God of War reboot, available at 40% off for Rs. 1979. Both Spider man games, Remastered and Miles Morales, are listed at Rs. 2,679 and Rs. 2,210 respectively, although I think the latter should be even cheaper considering how short the overall game is. Another good choice would be Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, which puts Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy in the same package for Rs. 1979.
I’m quite surprised to see Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on sale so soon, having launched in April to rave reviews – all criticizing its performance issues that have seen the game struggle to run on high-end hardware. This explains the mixed reception on Steam, and it costs Rs. 2,624 with 25% discount. In contrast, Resident Evil 4 – released in March – is not available for sale, although there are other quality Capcom titles you can choose from. I would recommend picking up the Resident Evil 2 remake, where you step into the shoes of rookie cop Leon S. Kennedy as he fights his way through an infected Raccoon City, ravaged by flesh-eating zombies. It is listed at Rs. 499 with 75% off. Or if you’re into high-octane hack-and-slash, pick up Devil May Cry 5 for Rs. 577.
If you’re into open-world titles, Red Dead Redemption 2 should be an obvious choice, which has been given a 67% discount, bringing the price down to Rs. 1,055. Or get ready for the Phantom Liberty DLC with Blade Runner-style Cyberpunk 2077, which I promise is in a much better state than it was at launch in 2020. The base game costs Rs. 1,499 after a 50% discount, although you can also get a bundle worth Rs. 2758, which also includes the upcoming expansion. On the shooter side, the latest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has been given a 45% discount, now costing Rs. 2749 for the base edition.
