The Need for Speed Unbound trailer and full car list has dropped. After a series of leaks and a long debut countdown, EA has finally revealed the first look at its newest entry in the NFS racing franchise. NFS Unbound sports a revamped, anime-like art style that combines super-realism with graffiti-like cell-shaded animations, resulting in a punk look. Burnout franchise veterans Criterion Games are leading the development of this title, which claims Ghost Games’ role as responsible for the last four NFS entries. Need for Speed Unbound is scheduled to release on December 2nd for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.

The Need for Speed Unbound trailer draws great parallels to drag racing culture, similar to the Fast and Furious franchise. You have cell-shaded characters – including rapper A$AP Rocky – posing with their cars, while loud music plays in the background, before entering the race. That said, IGN has confirmed that you won’t be able to play with him. Instead, Rocky will appear as an in-game leader, via a game mode called Takeover Scene, where players work together to establish control over the map. Previous reports indicated that NFS Unbound would be heavily multiplayer oriented, with one of the modes being called Meetups, which pits online racers against each other. Rocky also contributes to the game’s soundtrack.
The Need for Speed Unbound trailer is pretty stylish, I must say, featuring animated dust effects in shades of green, crash animations when using nitrous, and pop-out wings when jumping off a ramp. Gaming journalist Jeff Grubb hinted at these additions in April, saying, “You know when you see a car commercial or something and the car is driving around, but then cartoon flames and stuff are flying out of it? That’s the kind of aesthetic they seem to be going for.” The claim was later reinforced by some leaked footage in development showing how animations are triggered upon impact. For example, crashing into an obstacle displays a glitch screen, followed by a dead skull icon.
Same as previous Need for Speed games, NFS Unbound will feature classic modes where you beat the clock, evade the cops and compete in the weekly qualifiers for what is described as “Lakeshore’s ultimate street racing challenge: The Grand”. The entry also brings a new boost feature called Burst Nitrous, propelling you into territories of speed that create a dizzying effect.

Need for Speed Unbound is for next-gen platforms and PC only, and carries next-gen pricing. On PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, the game costs Rs. 4,499/$70. On PC, NFS Unbound is listed at Rs. 3,499. There is also a Palace Edition which costs Rs. 5,299 on console and Rs. 4,299 on Steam.
