A paddleboarder found dead in the water near Barack Obama’s Martha’s Vineyard mansion has been identified as his personal chef, 45-year-old Tafari Campbell.
Edgartown, Massachusetts, police confirmed Monday morning that the search for a then-unidentified African-American man was called off after a body was recovered from the city’s Great Pond.
Authorities later identified the man as Tafari Campbell, who had worked for the Obamas in the White House and beyond. Police said neither Obama nor his wife, Michelle, were home when Campbell died.
“Tafari was a cherished part of our family,” said the Obama family. “Our hearts are broken that he is gone…we join everyone who knew and loved Tafari, especially his wife Sherise and their twin sons, Xavier and Savin, in mourning the loss of a truly wonderful man.”

Obamas mourn ‘a beloved part of our family’
The newspaper identified Campbell as Obama’s personal chef, who cooked for him at the White House during his term as president and later went on to work for the family.
“Tafari was a cherished part of our family,” the Obamas said. “When we first met him, he was a talented deputy chef at the White House – creative and passionate about food and its ability to bring people together.
“In the years that followed, we got to know him as a warm, funny and extraordinarily kind person who made our lives a little brighter.
“That’s why, as we were preparing to leave the White House, we asked Tafari to stay with us, and he generously agreed. He has been a part of our lives ever since, and our hearts are broken that he is gone.
“Today we join everyone who knew and loved Tafari – especially his wife Sherise and their twin sons, Xavier and Savin – in mourning the loss of a truly wonderful man.”

911 call was made from Obama’s home, report says
the daily mail is claiming that the 911 call that summoned police to the scene was made from Obama’s home.
The British newspaper did not provide the source of this information, saying only “it is understood” – journalistic jargon that usually means that someone in authority said this in voice-over.
O Martha’s Vineyard Times also reported that police were called to Obama’s property for a “possible drowning”, adding that the man was last seen wearing all black and without a life jacket.
We still don’t know if any members of the Obama family were actually home at the time.
